Ace-Jack

Joe, just so you know, the casino game that I play in is $3/$5 blinds $5-$150 spread (there are laws in AZ that don't allow for NL, so this is the best way around the laws), $350 Max buy-in...

I have around $525 and the villian has $425 when the hand begins

9-handed...average stack is about $350

Villian limps UTG, and some donk calls too, I have AJo in the cutoff and make it $25 to go...I have been raising a lot of pots in position and I think people are starting to get pissed (as they start calling me more)...anyways, the button calls, blinds fold, UTG calls, and donk calls

4-players to the flop

FLOP: J-10-4 (rainbow)

Villian checks, donk checks, and with around $100 in the pot already I make it $75 to go....button folds, Villian immediately raises $150 more (the max raise)...donk folds and its back to me....

What would you do here?

From what I know about this guy is that he is semi-solid...he has been making this same check-raise move throughout the night...the first time he made it, the other player folded and he didn't show...the next time he check-raised $150, the other player laid down top-pair and Villian showed nut-flush draw...the 3rd time, Villian made move and showed KK on 10-6-5 board (limped preflop with KK)...so needless to say, he seems to make this move quite a bit....

Well i guess it depends on whether you believe him or not...with no draws out there (except a straight) he could have flopped a set or top two...i probably would have put him all in...but again i can't see his body language but reraising the max there screams that he doesnt want a call...maybe he had QJ or A10...

Ok just to clarify...is the max bet $150 on each round of the hand? Did villian raise $150 on top of your $75? And would that have killed the action and both of you have been "all in" if you called?

Anyway I'm assuming that you were raised $150 on top of your $75 making it $225 total.

If that were the case I would fold here, theres just too many things that can beat you and the kind of hands you're hoping for are still strong draws... (open ended and the likes) which you will be forced to play for all your chips. Since you stated he had been using the check raise frequently I think you could find a better spot in the night to trap him and clean him out. I'd say its a 50/50 that you have the best hand there.

ps
can you add me on so I can post? my emails jromano@mail.utexas.edu

oh also Max, what did this guy think of your play? Did he think you were capable of a continuation bet here with AK or smaller pairs?

Joe,

Yes, the max bet on each street is $150...he check-raised $150 on top of me, making it $225 to go...he had about $170 behind him after he made the raise...he is my thinking for the hand:

First off, the players at this level rarely are thinking about your past play....granted they try to put you on hands, but most of the time they are just playing thier cards (at least that is how I view this particular player)...so in regards to him thinking about me making a continuation bet with AK, I dont believe hes putting me on that

Anyways, I feel that the following are his range of hands:
J-10, 4-4, Q-9, 9-8, K-Q, and to a much lesser extent Q-J, or K-J (and maybe even 10-10, but it seems so unlikely the way the hand was played)...so three of these hands (98, Q9, and KQ) he is drawing with, and KQ is probably a slight favorite over me, while the other two hands have me dead...the fact that there are more possible drawing hands he could have here along with the fact that earlier he had been pushing with his draws, made me reraise him his last $170 (I reraised $150 and he went all-in for $20 more)...

He beats me in the pot, so I immediately feel like I made the wrong decision...the turn comes an A, giving me two-pair and making KQ beat me...at this point he says, "I think I just gave you a bunch of money"...makes me happy...river is a blank and I flip my AJ and he shows 9-8 clubs for 9-high...he stormed away from the table

Apparently this guy plays there a lot and never shuts up. The dealer goes "you just made my day by busting that guy..." :)
