An intesresting hand

Once again bodog 1/2:

This is one of my first hands at the table. I'm in the BB with AQs. Everyone but 1 person limps in to villian who is on the button. Villian raises to $13, I call and so does first position. Right here I'm putting villian on a hand like 1010 through AA but more likely his range is 10 10 or JJ trying to protect his overpair from all the limpers. As for first position, I most likely put him on a pair from 99-22 just trying to hit a set against a strong raise hoping to win a monster pot. Anyway, the flop comes down Q 8 2 rainbow. Me and first position check and vililan bets $25 into a pot of about $50.

I have two questions for you. 1) What do you put villian on right here? 2)If villian does indeed have a hand that I beat such as 10 10 or JJ what should I do to extract the maximum out of this situation?

Well if i were in your position i would raise him to figure out where i was in the hand. I would probably make it $40 on top of his $25...then if he comes back over the top the decision would be difficult...you would pretty much have to just go with your insticts. It could just be one of those situations where you might just have to pay off AA or KK if you think you have the best hand. Im interested to know what happened next....

First off, is this game 9-handed or one of the short handed 6-person tables? If it is 9-handed, I view it as more likely that he might have AA or KK becuase he has more people he needs to knock out with that sized raise, but if there are only 6-people at the table, it looks like hes trying to move people off thier hands with some mid-rainged pocket pair or AK...nevertheless, in this spot, I feel like the correct play is a min-raise to $50. My reasoning behind this play is that if he does have AA or KK, he will most likely raise you back, saving you the most amount of money when he comes back over the top. His bet on the flop doesn't seem like AA or KK. I think it would be closer to a pot-sized bet with an overpair. If he has AK, he may feel as though he is priced in to see another card (and may assume hitting an A or a K would make him good) and might call. He might also call with hands like JJ, 10-10, 99, in order to show you that he won't be pushed around by a min raise. Also, he may call you and fold on the turn when you fire. If he has QQ, he will probably smooth call and you will lose a lot of money, but if thats the case, so be it.

I also don't mind check-calling the rest of the hand. By check-calling, you give him some more rope to continue bluffing the rest of the hand. With AK or a mid-range pocket pair, he may check the turn behind you, then bet the river when checked to again, assuming his PP must be good or he can run you off your hand since you checked all the way through. But this play does have it's risks. If he fires strong on the turn and agian on the river, you might be in trouble....

Ultimately in my opinion, there's no hand that you're going to get action with THAT YOU ARE BEATING by check-raising more than the minimum. Actually, I think flat-calling is the best play here. You run the risk of getting 2- or 3-outered, as well, but fuck it...
