Before we move on

Before we go on to any new posts, I want to finish discussion concerning the A-Q hand and the 7-5 hand Joe posted...What is the correct play for these two situations and why? I've posted my thoughts and have given reasons to them, so I would like to see what you two think....

Well to comment on Joe's 7 5 hand i would have also smoothed called in that situation. Since you have position why not let him have to make the decision on the river. But ultimately i don't think it would have mattered. He probably had like pkt 88 or AK and tried to represent a 7 or something. So i think that if you would have just called he probably would have conceded the hand and just checked it to you on the river, but might as well give him a chance to bet the rest of his chips....and if he hits some 1 out miracle on the river fuck it.

Max, sorry I haven't posted the results on the hands. On the A-Q hand I smooth called the flop after pausing...I wanted to act suspicious of his bet putting him on a hand like AK (I have no idea if this message actually got conveyed but that was my goal). On the turn a blank came and I bet about half the pot. It bascially looked like a huge feeler bet. I think at this point villian figured he had the best hand and just smooth called because there were no draws out there. On the river I waited and thought and moved all in, villian instant called. Now I don't know what he was actually thinking in the hand but I wanted to make him think I didn't believe him. Now that I look back at it, it looks pretty obvious I have him beat here and I don't know why it was so hard to get off of the hand. Either way he didn't believe me and almost beat me into the pot on the river.

On the 7-5 hand I reraised to $109. It was more of an impulse than anything I wanted to act like a donk becaue that was my image at the table. He quickly folded. I think smooth calling is the right answer here, and on the river you must have him believe he has the best hand. For the way I was playing I had 3 options: first was to overbet it and make it look like a push bet, second would be to check hoping to induce some action, and third would be to make a bet that is non committing but also big enough to be of some value. These bets are my favorite because it induces a lot of raises and it also allows me to steal pots on the river if the circumstances are right.
