Baffled

Not too much going on live lately...been getting coolered quite often and nobody likes a bad beat story so I'll post a hand I had on Bodog $1/2 today.

Villian had just sat down with $189.50. I found this odd because it told me two things: 1) He was probably playing with his entire bankroll 2) Against pressure he would be forced to lay down marginal hands for fear of losing the rest of his stack (and probably his bankroll).

Anyway I'm in the cutoff with ~$200 and get delt K 9 of hearts. I raise to $7 and villian calls in the small blind. Flop comes out Qs 8h 7h and villian quickly checks to me so I make my standard continuation bet of $9 (pot is $16). Villian thinks then calls. Turn comes the 10c making my draw even stronger and allowing me to fire a second bullet into the pot if checked to. Villian once again checks and I bet $25 (pot is $34). Villian once again thinks then calls. River is another Q so I missed completely. Villian quickly checks again and my instinct tells me that another bet into the pot will win it. I fire out $50 (pot is $84) and villian quickly calls, shows down AK to take down a $184 with ace high...

My question for this hand is this... Is this guy a complete donkey or did I misplay the hand? I would have played the hand similarily with a lot of hands like A 10, 99, JJ, etc.

Lol...thats one of those hands where I would have checked the river, seen his hand, then said "Fuck! If I just would have bet the river, I woulda won..." Sounds like he's just a donk (no wonder hes bringing in his entire bankroll into the table, since its all he has left) I would say if you're going to bluff the river like that, make it a larger bet, but in this case, it probably wouldn't have mattered, since he would have called you anyways and you would have just lost more...

On the river, against a regular opponent, I'm putting him on something like KQ, QJ, 10-9, 9-8, A-x hearts, or maybe even Q-10 (but he probably would have raised the turn) and in my opinion, hes probably not going to lay any of those down except the A-x suited or maybe the 9-8....therefore, I wouldn't have bet on the river and just given him the pot

Given what he had, I think youre bet on the river was correct as few players will call you there...If he had bought in for the full $200, would you have still played the hand the same way?

I wouldn't have and that was one of the key "ingredients" of my bet on the river. He just seemed weak to me and his check call on the other streets really told me he didn't have a queen. On lower stakes I would have checked but on 1/2 usually I would have gotten a raise somewhere before the river out of someone holding a queen. I mean if villian didn't and he was holding a queen then I wouldn't have seen it coming and paid off trip queens there. Anyway I felt like I needed to post a hand and this one stood out in my book. I guess theres nothing I could have done except hit a 9 or heart... or J or 6... and gotten paid off...just wanted to post a hand that had me baffled. I'm glad online players don't have that great of a read on me (phew). More to come later.

And to answer your question at the end... I think I would have played the hand differently based on the fact that he had bought in for the full and not $11.50 less. It would have been easier to put villian on a Q if he had and I probably would have checked the river in disgust after missing all my draws.

All in all I hate missing big draws and I hate it even more getting called on a bluff (don't use this information against me please lol), but I was so mad after this hand I left all my tables and called it a night. Max also I commend your raise on the AJ hand I really think I would have folded or just called/checked the turn and with my luck the 7 or Q would have hit...
